The 12 Beers of Christmas, a new Seattle tradition

The first thing that comes to my mind when someone mentions The 12 Beers of Christmas is that silly song by Bob and Doug McKenzie (with keyboard accompaniment by Geddy Lee). “Take off, you hoser!” Showing my age, aren’t I? Apparently The 12 Beers of Christmas is also a new Seattle holiday tradition.

From West Seattle to Capitol Hill to Greenwood, around Seattle we all celebrate the season the same way: we drink great beer. For the second year, three of Seattle’s most outstanding beer destinations have put together a cross-city event dubbed The 12 Beers of Christmas. I suppose two years makes it a tradition, right?

The multi-venue, multi-day event is organized and sponsored by Odom, one of our local beer distributors. You’ll drink great beer and have a chance to win a host of prizes, including a fantastic grand prize.

Here’s how it works: From December 1st through December 12th you must visit three pubs. (Okay, twist my arm.) Pick up a punch card at one of the participating pubs. There are specific days on which you must visit each pub–each pub offers you a four-day window during which you may drink the four beers. Each pub features four fantastic seasonal beers – 12 beers in all.

Enter to win the grand prize by completing your punch card and turning it in at the tour’s final stop. This year that’s the Beveridge Place Pub (blog sponsor). The winner is drawn at 9:00 p.m. on the last day – Monday, December 12, 2011.

The grand prize is a getaway-ski weekend for four people in Leavenworth. This includes accommodations in Leavenworth (in the village) and lift tickets at Stevens Pass.  The prize package also includes “a trunk full of beer” to get you and you through the getaway weekend.

Each pub can tell you exactly what is on their list. We know for sure that the Beveridge Place Pub’s list includes 21st Amendment’s Fireside Chat, Southern Tier’s Old Man Winter, Left Hand’s Fade to Black, and Dick’s Double Diamond! The Beveridge Place will host a special event on Monday, Dec 12th, at which time the Grand Prize winner will be drawn!

Here’s where and when to drink:
