Small batch, limited release cantaloupe IPA from Redhook celebrates the Huskies season

Post updated November 15: Note that the location of the official beer release has changed. It is now at A Pizza Mart and not at Earl’s.

Original post: Do not despair. Although the University of Washington Huskies screwed the pooch and lost to USC the other night, they are still in position to win the PAC 12 championship and who knows what else. It’s shaping up to be the most successful Huskies season in a coon’s age so Redhook decided to make a beer to help celebrate: Victory the Cry IPA , which they brewed using cantaloupe. Can’t say I’ve heard that one before.  This is a small-batch, limited release beer from Redhook Brewery.

Here’s the release info I got from the brewery:

With the Washington Huskies in position for their first Pac-12 title in more than 15 years, the official craft beer of UW athletics, Redhook Brewery, made a mouthwatering Cantaloupe IPA “Victory the Cry”, that will tap Saturday, November 19 at Earl’s on the Avenue.

The brew is a celebration of that sweet, golden-hued fruit and at 6.2 ABV packs a nice hoppy punch that is balanced by cantaloupe that was hand-scooped into a whirlpool of IPA. Additions of the Hull Melon and Eureka hops round out the melon aroma, and a final addition of the cantaloupe was added just prior to reaching terminal. The result is a subtle IPA with layers of melon flavor.

Despite their loss to USC, Washington still controls its destiny for the Pac-12 title and hosts Arizona State this Saturday.
