Airways Brewing: Final Departure is an Initial Offering

The countdown to Armageddon continues as we patiently await the end of our human existence. According to the Mayan calendar, the world as we know it ceases to exist on December 21, 2012. Like Elysian Brewing (read about it), the gravity of the situation is not lost on Airways Brewing. To help you face the end of days, Airways Brewing Company of Kent, WA introduces Final Departure Stout. This is the company’s first packaged beer, available in 22-ounce bottles at select bottleshops throughout the Seattle/Tacoma area.

“As our time on earth supposedly draws to an end, we’ve brewed up something special and truly unique for what may be the last beer you ever drink,” said Alex Dittmar, owner and head brewer at Airways Brewing Company. “Plus, we figured what better time to start bottling our beer – just in case.”

Final Departure Imperial Stout clocks in at 9.9 percent alcohol by volume and boasts 75 IBUs. You’ll notice hints of coffee and chocolate, with a toasty finish accompanied and noticeable hop bitterness.

Starting today, you can find Final Departure Stout at the area’s better bottle shops, such as The Beer Junction (blog sponsor) and 99 Bottles (blog sponsor). If you want to try it on draft, Airways Brewing Company will host an “End of Days” party on December 20 at the Airways Brewing Tap Room in Kent (3:00 p.m. to midnight). Along with Airways’ seasonal offerings, revelers will enjoy three versions of Final Departure on tap: the original and two special versions aged in rum and whiskey barrel.

“We’re excited Airways Brewing has decided to bottle their amazing beer and we can’t wait to stock it on shelves,” said Erika Tedin, owner of Full Throttle Bottles in Georgetown. “We’ve been patiently waiting to be able to share Airways beer with our customers and think Final Departure is a fabulous first introduction.”

Yes, Erika, it is a fabulous first introduction, but if the Mayans are right, it will also be the last.
