Belgianfest 2013 – Follow Up & Pictures

Last Saturday’s Belgianfest was another big success for the Washington Beer Commission. Not only did both sessions of the event sell out, but the participating breweries really knocked it out of the park. Quite literally, there was too much great beer to pick a favorite. Especially since you’re talking about such a wide variety of flavors. There was way too much beer to even dream about trying them all.

The improved/enlarged event space at the Bell Harbor Convention Center on the Seattle waterfront provided a spacious venue, one that seemed crowded but not packed. At their peaks, each session (we attended both) were full but not uncomfortably cramped. There’s quite a difference between the two crowds. The afternoon session is busy with hardcore beer geeks who tend to enjoy the beer as much as the festival. The evening session sees a lot more people enjoying the festival more than the beer. One person described the evening session as being, “A lot more Belltown.”

It was nice to see some new players at the event, including super-new breweries like Duvall Springs Brewing, Justice Brewing, and Rambling Road Brewery, as well as rather-new breweries like Reuben’s Brews and Triplehorn Brewing. In all there were 35 different breweries pouring at least twice that many beers.

Instead of calling out particular beers that I liked, I’ll say it once again, way too much great beer to pick favorites.

Here are some pictures from the event.

Washington Belgian Brew Fest?!?!! You West Siders are killing us with your amazing brew fests.

I used to live in Oregon, so I have been to some great fests, but never a Belgian Style.

Breweries are on the rise out in S. East Washington. Ice Harbor tends to be pretty good, but the rest in the Tri Cities Area, especially Prosser, need some mentoring.
