Big Block Brewery is on the move

The Big Block Brewery taproom on East Lake Sammamish Parkway is not closing but the company just announced plans to open a second location. It will only operate as a taproom at first but eventually the brewery’s new location will feature a new, bigger brewery. Big Block Brewery is taking over the spot recently vacated by Hi-Fi Brewing, just down the road from Black Raven Brewing in Redmond.

“It’s bitter sweet for us,” says John Julum of Big Block Brewery. “It is sad for the folks at Hi-Fi, we never like to see a local craft brewery close its doors, but it is good news for us.”

Big Block Brewery is not affiliated with Hi-Fi Brewing and the plan does not involve keeping any of the previous tenant’s brewing equipment.

“Our plan is to keep our existing taproom, so no changes there,” said Julum. “We plan to open the second taproom sometime in early June and start brewing there sometime this fall. We have a new seven-barrel brew system on order and expect that to take five to six months. Initially the taproom will be 21 and over, but once production starts and we have our brewing license completed we will open a small section that will allow minors so beer drinking parents can also come in. The goal is also to have a small menu for lighter food items, but that will certainly depend on licensing and zoning.”

Currently, Big Block Brewery produces its beer in John’s garage, but that will stop once the new system is up an running. They will eventually move the existing two-barrel brewery to the new location and use it as a pilot system.
