Big Time Wins the Beer & Burger Battle

On Tuesday, May 13th Brouwer’s Cafe hosted the Beer & Burger Battle, an annual event during Seattle Beer Week. For the first time in the 5 year history of the event, the reigning champion retained the title. Big Time Brewery, and Drew Cluley, won this year’s battle with the Big Time Sloth Burger.

Below, the complete results straight from Brouwer’s, along with a photo and a diagram of the winning burger (provided by Drew Cluley).

We are pleased to announce the results of the 2014 Beer and Burger Battle that took place on Tuesday, May 13th. It was a tough call as Schooner Exact, Ninkasi, Boneyard and Almanac all made great burgers, and brought delicious beers to compliment them, but in the end it came down to the numbers. Since it is a Beer and Burger Battle we looked at the totals for both beers poured and burgers ordered, with slightly more weight placed on the burgers.

For the first time in the 5 year history of this event, we have a repeat winner!

1st Drew Cluley and the Big Time have done it again with the Sloth Burger. He won last year with a similar burger, and is always a local favorite.

Figuring out 2nd through 5th was not as easy, but after some debate we went with:

2nd Ninkasi – who actually sold 2 more burgers than Big Time, but less than half the number of beers (who knew Kim chi was so popular!).

3rd Boneyard – sold far and away the most beer, but lagged in burger orders. Were folks scared off by “Top Ramen” in the title of their burger?

4th Almanac – everyone loves sours and they were the only brewery to go through a whole 1/6 barrel of one of their beers, but they unfortunately fell behind in burger orders.

5th Schooner Exact – a good number of folks ordered their delicious “Smokey & The Bandit” burger, and great selection of beers, but unfortunately just not enough!

It was hard to decide and it was a close competition for sure, we would like to take this opportunity to thank the brewers (competitors) for taking part in the battle, and all of you for attending.
