Black Friday for Beer Lovers

When it comes to Black Friday, either you love it or you hate it. Either you think it is a glorious celebration of bargains or you think it is an ungodly display of consumer-driven vomitus. Personally, I choose not to participate in the Black Friday commotion. I think we need is a new kind of Black Friday ritual, one that does not require me to sacrifice my soul to the highest bidder or lowest discounter. And wouldn’t it be great if such a ritual involved beer?

Here’s a list of some Black Friday beery happenings. There may be other Black Friday beer events about which I do not yet know. I hope people will leave comments here and share any pertinent information (or drop me an email). We need a new Black Friday tradition, one that celebrates the darkest of beers and not the darkest parts of our greedy souls.

Fremont Brewing. As we reported on November 14, Fremont Brewing releases the 2014 version of its wildly popular Bourbon Barrel Aged Abominable Ale on Friday, November 28th from 5:00 – 9:00 in the Urban Beer Garden. Rumor has it the Yeti from the logo will be making an appearance and available for holiday photos.

In addition to the Bourbon Abominable on tap, and available for purchase in 22-ounce bottles, Fremont will pour five different infused versions. At 7:00, one of Fremont’s brewers discusses the history of the B-Bomb, the key ingredients and stats, the barrel aging and blending process, and the ways in which you can expect the beer to change as it ages.

Georgetown Brewing

Georgetown Brewing’s Hansen Brothers Imperial Black IPA will be released at the brewery Friday for growler fills. Does that make it a Black Fri-PA? Describes as a dark and bitter beer that would make Scrooge proud. While you’re there, be sure to try Church Beer IPA – brewed for Beer Church, benefiting the local chapter of the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America!

Reuben’s Brews

Celebrate Black Friday with a selection of Reuben’s coffee beers: Breakfast Stout, Kenya Cream, and Joe Crikey IPA. Reuben’s Brews taproom is open from 3:00 – 9:00.

Chuck’s and Bourbon County

It’s the official release day for Goose Island Brewery’s Bourbon County Brand Stout. Likely Chuck’s is not the only place you might find it on Friday. But we know this: It will hit the shelves at Chuck’s Hop Shop on 85th and at Chuck’s Central District on Friday, but we’re not exactly sure when. BCBS is a wildly popular beer that attracts a lot of well-deserved attention. “Our bottles will not be delivered until Friday afternoon so you will have to bear with us,” says Chuck on Facebook. “We will make an announcement on Facebook and Instagram as soon as bottles become available.” DO NOT CALL! Chuck’s CD 0n Facebook, Chuck’s Hop Shop on Facebook.
