Tomorrow at noon the brewery unlocks the cage and lets another rare bird spread its wings. Be kind. Be polite. Remember, it’s only beer. Very good beer, but only beer. That said, tomorrow (Saturday, July 19) Black Raven Brewing releases this year’s version of Splinters Strong Scotch Ale, one of its barrel-aged masterpieces.
“Last Splinters release was sold out in two hours,” say Beaux Bowman, owner/brewmaster at Black Raven Brewing. “I bottled more this year but not much more.” He also points out that after the bottles are gone, the beer goes on tap at the taproom.
“Splinters is the bourbon barrel-aged version of our Second Sight Strong Scotch Ale. Aged for many months in various bourbon barrels, Splinters picks up the best of the barrel for added complexity of flavor. All of the barrels are then combined and the beer is aged for another month in a stainless steel tank to meld and mature.”
