Bluegrass and Beer Festival – a beer week tradition

bluegrass and beer

It would be foolish of me to try posting a story about every Seattle Beer Week event. There are too many of them. To be honest, not every event is cool enough to deserve a story. But this is one of my favorite events and it benefits a worthy cause. The fact that it falls during Seattle Beer Week is incidental. Sells out every year.

On Saturday, May 9th, Rob and Erik’s Bluegrass and Beer Festival (formerly known as Brewgrass) returns to Hale’s Paladium for its third year, offering boot-stompin’ bluegrass music served up alongside some really tasty beers. It will sell out again this year, so don’t delay.

The Tallboys perform at last year’s Brewgrass festival (now Bluegrass and Beer Festival).

This year the event offers a selection of collaboration beers, as well as a number of special-release beers. Listed below. As far as the music is concerned, Bluegrass and Beer once again brings together some of the area’s best, young bluegrass acts, which are also listed below. This is not your grampa’s bluegrass! Proceeds from the event benefit Northwest Harvest. Ticket are on sale now. Sells out every year.

Maybe you’re not a bluegrass aficionado. Doesn’t matter. Bluegrass music makes people smile and dance. When Charmaine gets to stomping her feet (clogging) the crowd goes crazy. Don’t know what clogging is? Don’t miss the Tallboys’ set. In short, this is a rip-roaring good time and should not be missed. Sells out every year. You’ve been warned.

This Seattle Beer Week event SOLD OUT the last 2 years, and our goal this year is to raise $5000 for Northwest Harvest. A limited number of tickets will be available at the door on a cash-only basis, so buy early to secure your place at the party!

This year’s event features even more beer and even more music, with sets by returning favorites The Tallboys, Porterbelly Stringband, and The Warren G Hardings. We’ll also have Jacob Navarro from Spoonshine and a surprise band we can’t announce yet!

We invited both local and national breweries this year who will be bringing special release beers and longtime favorites. Some breweries will be collaborating to create a new beer just for this event. Each brewery has agreed to donate kegs of their beer as well as be on hand to pour them for you. Some of the breweries participating include:

Collaborations from:

·  Naked City Brewing and Airways Brewing

·  Hale’s Ales and Diamond Knot Craft Brewing

·  Big Al Brewing and Odin Brewing

·  Fremont Brewing and Breakside Brewing

Special release beers:

·   Oskar Blues Brewery

·   Big Sky Brewing

·   7 Seas Brewing

·   Farmstrong Brewing

·   NoLi Brewhouse

·   21st Amendment Brewery

·   Stoup Brewing

·   Hopworks Urban Brewery

·   Laurelwood Brewery

Tickets include entrance to the event, a logo tasting glass, and tickets for 8 tastes. More tasting tickets can be purchased at the event, as well as selected food offerings from the Hale’s Ales Pub kitchen. This is a 21+ event; no pets allowed.

Northwest Harvest is the only non-profit food bank distributor operating statewide in Washington with a network of more than 350 food banks, meal programs and high-need schools. It provides more than 1.7 million meals every month to feed hungry people in the state.

Rob & Erik are two beer geeks who also like good bluegrass music; this is their way to enjoy both while partying with their friends and raising money for a good cause. Follow their progress on the BrewGrass Facebook page: www.facebook.com/brewgrasssbw.
