Another Busy Beer Weekend in Washington

Summer in Washington is not long enough. There’s too much stuff crammed into each precious summer weekend.
I mentioned this to a buddy the other day and he reminded me of something we’ve learned from a former Major League Baseball star who has been known to haunt some of our local West Seattle watering holes. The philosophic musings of the Hendu teach us that it’s not at all about Seattle, rather it is about the money. “It’s always summer if you’re rich. You should live my life. Sunny 365.” (*see disclaimer below)
Well, I’m not rich so there’s always too many things crammed into each of my precious Washington weekends. It’s hard to decide what to do. This weekend is a perfect example. And I’m probably missing something.
SATURDAY
Pipers Creek Smoke Off – The Pub at Pipers Creek is hosting their annual Smoke Off. What’s that? Well it’s a BBQ competition. Expect lots of smoke and lots of meat, lovingly paired with a fine selection of delicious beer. The event runs from 3:00-8:00. (Expect to see me there early.)
Red Hot Battle of the Randalls – Down at the Red Hot in Tacoma they’ll be running Schooner Exact 3 Grid IPA through two different Randalls. They will be using different hops in each. The fun gets underway at 8:00.
Porterhouse Blues and Brews Fest – Up in Mt. Vernon, they’ll shut down Gates Street between 1st and Main and have a great time raising money for the Lincoln Theatre. The event features three live bands and a lot of great beear. The event runs from 2:00 – 7:30.
SUNDAY
Beer Church Golf Tournament and Banquet – Golf in the afternoon, eat and drink in the evening. Happening up north in Mountlake Terrace and Shoreline. There’s plenty of room left for both golfers and banqueters. Go to Beer Church for more details. (Of course, I’ll be there.)
Red Hot 2nd Anniversary Party – The Red Hot turns two! Outdoor beer garden, special brews, hot dog eating contest and more. They’ll also have a firkin of Schooner Exact 3 Grid.
*This is in no way intended to be a representation of something David Henderson has said or ever might say. It’s something a friend of mine said and is not something Dave Henderson said. So if he Googles his name and finds this post, I am not attributing this quote to Dave Henderson. Not that he’s the kind of guy who would Google his name or anything, I just want to be clear that he didn’t say it. Really, he didn’t.
