Cairn Brewing introduces a lager to the lineup, its first seasonal beer

As craft beer drinkers evolve and develop a taste for well-constructed lagers, more breweries are responding by offering various types of coldly and slowly fermented brews. Most hearken back to the European tradition: Pilsner, Vienna Lager, Marzen, and others. But an increasing number of breweries are opting to follow the Mexican tradition, like Cairn Brewing of Kenmore, Washington, which just announced the release of Grito, its Amber Mexican Lager.

Of course, Mexican lagers are themselves largely based on the European tradition, but that didn’t make for such a nice intro. Here is the release information from Cairn Brewing.

Grito honors the declaration of the Mexican War of Independence by Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla. The ‘grito’ was known as the “Cry of Dolores” and was exclaimed near the small town of Dolores on September 16, 1810.

According to co-owner and brewer Bill Boyd, “Grito is our first seasonal and commemorates Mexican Independence. Grito is a lighter-bodied beer that is crisp and refreshing as we round out summer.”  This initial seasonal features Northern Brewer hops, coming in at 30 IBUs and 5% ABV.  It will be available at Cairn Brewing, starting September 7.
