A celebration of cider this Saturday in Port Townsend

On occasion this blog turns its attention to cider. While our first love and primary focus is beer, we also enjoy cider, especially the local stuff being produced by the outstanding cideries of the Pacific Northwest. When we talk about cider, we are talking about the good stuff. If it isn’t “hard” then it’s just juice. At least by our standards anyway.

The Northwest Cider Association invites you to discover the delicious diversity of Pacific Northwest craft hard ciders at the first annual Summer Cider Day. The event takes place this Saturday, July 9th from 11: a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Fort Worden State Park in Port Townsend.

Washington, one of the great apple producing regions of the world, is home to many great cidermakers. Summer Cider Days brings together nearly a dozen regional cidermakers along with a select group of imported ciders. In all there will be at least 30 ciders for you to enjoy. You can also enjoy delicious cider and cheese pairing from one of the regions top creameries, Mt. Townsend Creamery (I’m particularly fond of the Cirrus Camembert). The event also offers food and live music. Children and leashed dogs are welcome.
Ticket prices are $25 per person. Ticket price includes admission, 10 taste tickets, and a keepsake glass. Additional taste tickets will be available for purchase. Admission is free for children.

Consider making a weekend of it. Port Townsend has a lot to offer, including an outstanding brewery (Port Townsend Brewing Company). Drive the “Cider Loop” and visit the area’s three local cideries, which will all be open for tours and tastes.
