Diamond Knot Brewing Announces the Christening of its New Brewpub

Today Diamond Knot Brewing announced the grand opening of the new Brewpub at Mountlake Terrace. Truth is, they’ve been quietly open for a couple weeks, but now they’re ready to announce the official christening of the new brewpub: Saturday, February 8 at 1:00 p.m.

We were there a couple weeks ago for the maiden voyage and have some pictures below. The first thing you’ll notice, the space is large. Huge, actually. In addition to regular restaurant seating (all ages), there is also a bar area reserved for grownups. The main dining room has a glass wall behind which you will see the beautiful new 10-barrel brewing system. There is also separate, large seating area that can be closed off for private events.

In the bar, take notice of the bartop which was fashioned using wood salvaged from a frieghter that wrecked off the Washington coast more than 90 years ago. A row of 16 taps are fed by tanks in the cold room immediately behind the bar. Fourteen of the taps will pour DK beers, two of the taps will pour cider, and they even serve cocktails. You know, if you’re into that sort of thing.

For Diamond Knot veterans, the menu will seem familiar. Sandwiches, salads and the grillstone entres to which you are accustomed. And speaking of food, when you visit plan a few extra minutes to spend next door at Double D Meats. Trust me, it’s more than a butcher shop.

MOUNTLAKE TERRACE, WA – After a year of construction, Diamond Knot Craft Brewing is preparing to celebrate the grand opening of its newest location – the Brewpub @ MLT.

It’s not every day the blessings of Neptune and Poseidon are conjured, but Mountlake Terrace’s only brewpub, the Brewpub @ MLT, will host its full ship’s christening ceremony at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8.

“We know most people expect a ribbon cutting for grand opening celebrations,” said Sherry Jennings, Diamond Knot’s chief storyteller. “Diamond Knot’s story is rooted in Pacific Northwest nautical history, so there’s no better way to welcome a new DK location than to christen ‘the ship.’”

Based in Mukilteo, Diamond Knot Craft Brewing has been awaiting this moment for more than a year. Tearing an 8,700-square-foot retail location down to its studs and rebuilding it into an exciting brewery experience has been a huge endeavor. Adjacent to Double DD Meats, a successful 59-year-old destination meat market, the Brewpub @ MLT includes a production brewery visible throughout the restaurant, full bar, private dining in the Quarterdeck and outdoor seating in the warmer months.

“Part of the Diamond Knot mission is to provide a lively experience,” said company president and founder Bob Maphet. “This location has already proven to be pretty lively thanks to the anticipation of our opening. It’s really about the Diamond Knot experience. Visitors to the Brewpub will not only be able to drink our craft beer, they can watch it being made.”

The 10-barrel brewing system is in full view behind a wall of glass. The beer is brewed and fermented, then sent to serving tanks in the large walk-in cooler and piped directly to the taps. There are 16 taps; 14 beers, one cider and DK root beer. Eventually there will be guest taps when monthly Washington Beer Nights welcome in brewers from around the state.

Another addition to the location is the shipwreck timber bar top, once a timber onboard a steam freighter that ran aground off the Washington coast in 1921. Underwater for more than 80 years, the timbers floated to shore and were reclaimed by a local timber company. Slabs were cut specifically for the Brewpub @ MLT bar and coated in many layers of resin.

“We like to tell stories and this bar top has definitely become a fun story to tell,” Jennings said. “You can still see sand in the grain and markings where steel chains once held the timbers to the deck.”

The Brewpub menu includes signature burgers and pizzas, salads, chowder and specialty dishes. Breakfast is served on the weekends and is a mix of omelets, waffles, pancakes and signature DK combinations. Monthly chef specials, appetizers and desserts round out the offerings.

Diamond Knot Craft Brewing also operates the Brewery & Alehouse on the Mukilteo waterfront, Camano Lodge on Camano Island and the Taproom, located at the company’s production brewery and headquarters on Chennault Beach Road in Mukilteo. Diamond Knot Craft Brewing has been in operation since 1994.

The hours for the Brewpub @ MLT, located at 5602 232nd St. #106, Mountlake Terrace, are 10 a.m. to midnight weekdays and 8 a.m. to midnight weekends.
