Drink beer to support clean water this Thursday

This Thursday you have two opportunities to contribute to the preservation of our clean water sources. All you have to do is drink beer. A couple months ago we told you about an organization called Washington Wild and its Brewshed Alliance program (read that post). Clean water is an essential ingredient in good beer, so it is something for which we can all be thankful. Washington Wild protects and restores wild lands and waters in Washington State through advocacy, education and civic engagement.

You are invited to Fremont Brewing Company’s Urban Beer Garden for a Brewshed Happy Hour this Thursday, December 12 from 5:00 – 8:00. For each pint sold, one dollar will be donated to the program. Washington Wild staff will be there chatting with you about efforts to protect Washington’s rivers and landscapes. Fremont Brewing uses water from the Cedar River watershed to brew its beer, which brings us to the next subject.

Also this Thursday, Friends of the Cedar River Watershed (aka The Friends) is hosting an event at Peddler Brewing from 4:00 – 9:00. A portion of the proceeds from the beer sales will be donated to the cause. The Friends is a private, non-profit 501(c)(3) organization incorporated in 1996 and dedicated to the protection and restoration of the Cedar River/Lake Washington Watershed and all the communities within its boundaries. The Friends will be working with a number of local breweries. Other events are already planned for January 9 at Hilliard’s Beer and January 30 at Reuben’s Brews.
