Elysian Brewing’s Dick Cantwell Talks About Opening a New Brewery

A lot has changed in the world of craft beer in recent years. One thing hasn’t: new breweries continue to open at a breathtaking rate. It’s too bad there isn’t a book discussing the topic of opening a brewery. Actually, there is. The bad news, it was published in 2006 which means it is outdated. As he explains in the video below, Dick Cantwell and the Brewers Association are about to introduce a new edition of the book.

The Brewers Association’s Guide to Starting Your Own Brewery offers the kind of important, valuable industry insight needed by aspiring brewers. Dick Cantwell is authoring (or has authored) the second edition of the book. It will soon be published and available to the the ever-increasing number of wannabe craft brewers. Once it is released, you’ll be able to buy it directly from the Brewers Association or from Amazon etc.

Dick Cantwell, brewmaster and founder of Seattle’s Elysian Brewing has served on the Brewers Association’s Board of Directors. He’s also built and opened a lot of breweries (five, I think). Among Dick’s many talents, he is quite a skilled writer. All of this qualifies him perfectly to author an updated version of the “how to start a brewery” book. In the video below, Dick talks about some of the things you can expect to find in the book and some of the things that have changed over the past eight years.
