Escape to San Francisco Next Weekend for a Big Beer Fest

Looking for an excuse to get out of town next weekend? Here’s an idea. Book a flight or plan a roadtrip and head to San Francisco for the 31st Annual San Francisco International Beer Festival. The event takes place at Fort Mason Center in San Francisco’s northern Marina District on Saturday, May 24th.

There will be dozens upon dozens of breweries from near and far pouring a massive array of beers – see the list of participants. What’s more, all the beer and tons of great food is included in your ticket price. There are a couple different options for tickets, but they all include beer and food.  We have a discount code to share for those of you willing to make the journey from the Northwest: Forthekids.

If you want to stay close to the event, consider the Redwood Inn. It is an affordable option by San Francisco standards and gets decent ratings on Tripadvisor. Most importantly, it is close to the festival. Otherwise, there are a lot of hotels in the area. In San Francisco you are welcome to spend as much as you want on a hotel room.

Here’s the press release about the event with more details:

GOOD BEER AND GOOD FUN FOR A GREAT CAUSE SINCE 1984

It started out in 1984 with about five beers – Pabst, Molson and Labatt’s Blue ranked among the highlights. Now, 30 years later, more than 100 international and local craft brewers will showcase their handiwork alongside some of San Francisco’s most intriguing eats at the 31st Annual San Francisco International Beer Festival. The beers now range from Bay Area standards like Anchor, Prohibition, Crispin Cider, and Lagunitas to international gems like the Czech Republic’s Krusovice The festival often features new, reserve or adventurous releases, like black IPA’s or MataVeza’s organic, naturally caffeinated beer brewed with yerba mate.

And don’t forget the food. This is artisan fare that runs the gamut from natural to imaginative pairings. Among them: Pizza Orgasmica (the big-hearted masterminds behind the “Girl From Ipanema” pie), Rosamunde Sausage Grill (promps for chicken cherry sausage), The Pub at Ghiradelli Square (the famed after-party spot for SFIBF) and Liverpool Lil’s (a longstanding San Francisco neighborhood tradition). We also have newer restaurants on the map Sauce and Hops and Hominy serving up their specialties.. Even Gelateria Naia will be on-site with their ever so popular beer-infused gelato. Plus many more providing you with tastes to compliment the beer!

And the best part – it really is for the kids.

All proceeds from SFIBF benefit the nonprofit Telegraph Hill Cooperative Nursery School, the oldest co-op preschool in San Francisco. This event is the single biggest revenue source for the preschool education of about 24 kids ages 2 to 5 years old, covering 80% of the school’s operating expense.

The festival has grown from an event that drew 150 people the first year to become a staple on the regional beer festival scene. It attracts a diverse crowd reflective of the Bay Area – from dreadlocked revelers to silver-haired sophisticates – all with a common bond: a love of sharing a fine brew for a good cause.

“BREWMASTER TICKET”.

Elevating the Event…

Designed for our most passionate beer lovers, the Brewmaster Ticket provides a special opportunity for attendees to arrive 90 minutes early and taste featured craft beer, mingle with brewers, distributors and fellow connoisseurs, and enjoy the festival in a more intimate setting before the madness of the main event ensues — all while drinking a tasty brew and sampling specially selected gourmet treats!
