Experimental IPAs and more, now at Georgetown Brewing

Galaxy hops are noted for their tropical fruit notes. Most commonly, passion fruit is how hop experts describe the aroma and flavor of this high alpha hop. Me, I’m more familiar with beer flavors than I am exotic fruit flavors, so I just say it tastes tropical and fruity. I can pull out some other adjectives if need be, but tropical fruit works. Georgetown Brewing is currently pouring some experimental IPAs brewed with Galaxy hops at the taproom in Seattle. These are exclusive, taproom-only beers, available for tasting and growler fills.

One of these experimental beers is already gone, so you better get there soon before the others start to blow. One of the beers, Camp Stories, is a benefit beer, with proceed benefiting Camp Goodtimes, which is where Manny first met Bob Hirsch, the guy for whom Bob’s Brown Ale was named. (read about Bob’s Brown Ale here.)

“Lately brewer Matt has been doing some serious IPA R&D with Galaxy hops – Achilles Galaxy (out – sad trombone), Far Far Away (almost out – get it soon!), Interplanet Janet (just out) and Camp Stories (soon to be out – with proceeds benefitting Camp Goodtimes). If you were ever curious about this pineappley and passionfruity hop, swing by for a taste and a growler… ”

“We also have our version of the rare, historic Kentucky Common style, Mary Lou on tap, brewed by the women of Georgetown in honor of International Women’s Day.”
