Flying Bike Cooperative Brewery celebrating 3rd anniversary this week

It was a crazy idea hatched back in 2011 that proposed something completely new and different: a cooperatively owned brewery controlled by a group of members, not owners or investors. The Washington State Liquor Control Board (now Liquor and Cannabis Board) wasn’t sure how to issue them a brewery license. There were some complications and obstacles, sure, but the visionaries behind Flying Bike Cooperative Brewery persisted and built an impressive membership base. Today, there are 1,872 members of the co-op, which brews some damn fine, award-winning beers.

Washington’s first and only cooperatively owned brewery is ready to celebrate its third anniversary, August 15th thru 18th at its brewery and taproom in Seattle’s Greenwood neighborhood. Below, see the list of daily events leading up to the actual anniversary party on Saturday, August 18th.

Flying Bike Cooperative Brewery , the first and only cooperative brewery on the west coast, celebrates our 3rd Anniversary with four days of special events! Come join us Aug 15-18 for one or all of them. This year we have something extra to celebrate – a few more metals to adorn our tap room! This year we won a Gold Medal for our Phinneywood Porter (original recipe by member Eric Blume) and a Silver Medal for our Gentle Ben Brown Ale. We invite you to come sample some beers, get a sense for our amazing community, and consider joining us as a member! Our brewery and tasting room are easily accessible by bike lane on Greenwood Ave (with plenty of bike racks at our front door) and bus (#5 and #45). We are kid and dog friendly at all hours, every day. Food is available for order at our bar from both Sushi Naomi and Luna Azul , or you can bring in any other food you wish. We look forward to seeing you here to celebrate with us!

Flying Bike Cooperative Brewery was incorporated as a cooperative business in the state of Washington in 2011. We spent a few years building an awesome, enthusiastic membership base, refining our business plan, and searching for the perfect brewery space. We built out and opened our doors to the thirsty masses on August 15th, 2015. Our 3rd Anniversary Party on Sat Aug 18th celebrates our THREE year milestone. You’ll find special beers, birthday treats, raffles, and more. Follow the events for all of the details and updates.

Flying Bike is fully open to the public. Special benefits for members include discounts on beer, beer-related educational opportunities, special beer events and releases, and the chance to compete in and judge member homebrew competitions. To date, 17 homebrew competition winners have been featured in the Tasting Room, brewed full scale on our 7bbl system with head brewer Kevin Forhan. Complimenting these beers are creations from our brewers Kevin Forhan and Jesse Young, which range from hop-forward NW IPAs, to roasty stouts, to those featuring unique adjuncts or yeasts to round out the tap lineup of 16 beers.

Flying Bike Cooperative Brewery is located at 8570 Greenwood Ave N. and has 1872 members.
