Follow Up – Pub at Pipers Creek Smoke Off

It was hard to pull me away from the Porterhouse Brewfest in Mount Vernon on Saturday, but I had another stop before I could call it a day: the Pub at Pipers Creek and the 5th Annual Smoke Off.
For the past 5 years, Mike Boston (featured in the video with the smoked Jesus) has been hosting this mostly-meat extravaganza. I’m talking about a gluttonous orgy of smoked delights — beef, pork, cheese, potatoes, etc. It is a beautiful omnivorous spectacle. And they have beer there, too.
I arrived too late and didn’t get to sample any of the iguana, darn it. I also missed the alligator. Oh well. Don’t pity me, I did get to try some delicious stuff. The event is catered potluck-style by the pub’s regulars and members of the local brewing  community. By the time I made it inside the pub, the buffet table looked like it had been ravished by a pack of hyenas.
The general mood of the crowd had me feeling incredibly sober. The Pub at Pipers Creek is one of Seattle’s great neighborhood beer bars. It was obvious that home was within walking distance for many of the hyenas in attendance.
On the other hand, the bus in the video was from Bellingham. James –the owner of Bellingham’s Green Frog Cafe– brought a whole crew with him. I’m not sure who the designated driver was, but that person is a saint.
