Gig Harbor Brewing is Now Open in Tacoma

I know what you’re asking. So do they. “Why is Gig Harbor Brewing in Tacoma?” Well, it is. Back in August we announced the grand opening of Gig Harbor Brewing Company, which was slated to open in Tacoma. Then we retracted that announcement as the brewery ran into some regulatory snafus. Today, it is official. Gig Harbor Brewing opened on November 24th. Here is the official announcement from the brewery, including an answer to the question you’re all asking:

Gig Harbor Brewing Co. Finally Opens Doors

After a start-stop episode in August, Gig Harbor Brewing Co. has finally opened its doors. The new brewery, located in Tacoma on South Tacoma Way greeted its first customers on Tuesday, November 24, just in time for the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

Head brewer Mike O’Hara, formally of Georgetown Brewing, has created three beers currently on tap: Round Rock® IPA, Racing Rooster® Red Ale, and Gig Harbor Imperial Stout. All three beers have been greeted warmly in the busy taproom over the past three weeks. Gig Harbor’s new double IPA — Sturdy Gertie® — will be on tap the week of 12/14 with Giggly Blonde™ to come the following week.

“We could not be more pleased with the quality of the beer Mike has managed to produce right out of the gate,” said owner, John Fosberg. “It’s great to hit the ground running with these first three recipes — and then have two more fine tasting brews right behind them — everything is tasting great.”

The new brewery is located in 2,500 square feet of warehouse space located on 3120 S. Tacoma Way in Tacoma, with seating for about 30-35 indoors and a sunny brick patio space for outdoor lounging when the warm weather returns.

Why Tacoma and not Gig Harbor you may be wondering?

“We searched for space in Gig Harbor for over a year. The Harbor has a lot of excellent — and expensive — retail space, but not a lot of warehouse space with sewer access which is what our business plan — and budget — called for,” explained Fosberg. “We were heartbroken when we made the decision to look outside of Gig Harbor, but it really has worked out for the best because we found a great building in a fabulous location, with easy freeway access, and an extremely supportive landlord.”

Gig Harbor’s taproom is open Wednesday & Thursday, 3:00PM – 7:00PM; Friday & Saturday 2:00PM – 8:00 PM; and Sunday 12:30 PM – 5:00 PM. Along with beer on tap, there will be additional non-alcoholic beverages and packaged snacks available. The taproom is also kid-friendly and outside food is welcome.
