Happening this weekend – festivals and getaways

Whatever direction you head this weekend, the weather is supposed to be great. Once again, this is a busy weekend for beer lovers. Go have fun this weekend. Just be safe. And by safe, of course, I mean that you should wear sunscreen. Otherwise, go have fun.

Tacoma Craft Beer Festival – Last year’s inaugural Tacoma Craft Beer Festival was fantastic. The location on Tacoma’s waterfront is great and the weather should be perfect. This year the TCBF has been expanded (Friday and Saturday) and promises to be even more fun with even more breweries. In addition to 50-some breweries pouring beers all weekend, Friday night will feature a whole bunch of cask-conditioned beer – a firkin fest within the fest. For all the details and tickets, visit the website at http://www.tacomacraftbeerfest.com.

Fresh Hop Festival – Has anyone else noticed the massive increase in fresh hop beers this year? Maybe I’m forgetting what it’s been like in past years, but it sure does seem like there are a lot of them out there right now. This Saturday in Yakima you can sample a whole bunch of fresh hop beers in one place at the annual Fresh Hop Ale Festival. The Washington Beer Blog will attend the festival this year and next week we’ll have a report for you.

The Fresh Hop Ale Festival celebrates the fact that 77% of the total U.S. hop crop is grown in the Yakima Valley! Visit the website for all the details. http://www.freshhopalefestival.com

Boundary Bay Brewmaster’s Dinner at Semiahmoo – (Friday night) Looking for something a bit quieter than a big festival? Want to get away for a luxurious and romantic weekend of great beer and great food? Semiahmoo and Boundary Bay have you covered. Friday night, Stars Restaurant will host a beer and food pairing dinner featuring the beers of Boundary Bay Brewing. The resort, located in Blaine, WA near the Canadian border, is offering special packages. For just $219 you get dinner for two and a room at the resort. That’s a pretty sweet deal for a place like Semiahmoo. This event is taking place on three consecutive Fridays. So even if you can’t make it this Friday, you can still head north on October 8th or October 15th.

We just heard from Janet at Boundary Bay and she has already sampled some of the pairings. “I just previewed the malt encrusted tenderloin, with a wort demi reduction, topped with blue cheese, paired with our Oatmeal Stout!! For dessert a chevre fig tarte with our Barley wine and OMG I can’t believe how he has nailed the pairings.”

Enumclaw Oktoberfest – the Washington Beer Commission is not involved in this year’s 2nd annual Enumclaw Oktoberfest, but there look to be some good Washington beers on the list nonetheless.  Harmon ESB, Iron Horse Irish Death and Harvest, Dick’s Danger and Lazy Boy Hef. And a lot of Blue Moon and Sam Adams too, if you like that sort of thing. Happening this Friday and Saturday, October 1st and 2nd.  http://enumclawoktoberfest.com
