Hello Brew Co! Love is… a beer to support the LGBTQ+ community

Say hello to Hello Brew Co

I am always happy to introduce you to a new brewery. First of all, Hello Brew Co is a new brewery in Spokane, Washington. Back in February, when the world was about to get flipped upside down, Hello Brew Company passed its final inspections and began selling beer. Their official release party happened in early March at the Steel Barrel Taproom in Spokane, just a couple weeks before the world shut down. The brewery doesn’t have a taproom, per se, but promises to pursue the idea of “pop-up taprooms.”

Last month, during June (Pride Month), Hello Brew Co teamed up with a brewery in nearby Spokane Valley, TT’s Old Iron Brewery, to create a special beer: Love Is… a honey wheat ale brewed to show support for the LGBTQ+ community. The beer is available at select accounts and also via the Hello Brew Co online store.  A portion of the proceeds from the beer will be donated to the Odyssey Youth Movement, an organization that promotes equity for LGBTQ+ youth in the Inland Northwest.

Since its inception, Hello Brew Co has been involved in collaborations and philanthropic projects like this, but Pride Month rang a particular bell for Ryan Maliski, the owner/brewer. He saw a lot of breweries making a lot of beer for a lot of different causes, but this particular cause seemed a bit forgotten.

“My background is in education and I have been actively teaching about the importance of elevating marginalized voices and it felt like the time to continue to practice what I taught,” said Ryan. “It is a tremendous privilege to have a brewery and to create a product that so many people engage with. It is our responsibility to do what we can to help others in our community.”

“It felt like the right thing to do and it felt like it would be a missed opportunity if we did not do it.”
