Hopworks Urban Brewery – taking the town by storm

Nobody can deny that there is a lot of great beer being brewed in Portland these days. Ya, like that’s news. Without sounding jealous, it’s pretty amazing actually. There is perhaps no better example of Portland’s brewing prowess than the beers coming from Hopworks Urban Brewery (HUB).

As I drink more of their beer, and learn more about what they’re doing, the more I appreciate HUB. Self-described as Portland’s first “eco brewpub,” HUB makes organic beers, sources local ingredients as much as possible, and strives for sustainability in everything they do. Cheers to that.

If you have yet to be introduced to the excellent beers coming from HUB, today is your day. This afternoon they will be doing a tasting at 99 Bottles in Federal Way from 4:00 – 5:30. Full Throttle Bottles in Georgetown will also be doing a tasting (bring your own glass, if you can) from 5:00 – 7:00. Thereafter, it’s on to Renton’s Dog and Pony Alehouse for a brewer’s night celebration. Obviously, they have more than one person in town today.

I’m usually very provincial about my beer, but I really like what HUB is doing. Since I just enjoyed a delicious bottle of Ace of Spades IPA last night, and loved it, I thought they deserved a shout-out here on the Washington Beer Blog. Welcome to town, HUB.
