Inkin’ and Drinkin’ – tattoos and brews

By North Seattle Sarah

I feel like there should be a Christmas song here – “on the third day of beer week, Seattle gave to me…”

Yep, we’re getting into the thick of Seattle Beer Week now and the events keep coming. Did I mention I’m 125 pounds with an extremely low tolerance level? For night #3 of Beer Week (Saturday, May 21st), I visited The Pub at Pipers Creek on Greenwood Avenue in north Seattle for Inking and Drinking, an evening of beer with Skagit River and Left Hand Brewing, and tattoos from Ink Bomb Tattoo.

I’ll have to admit that I’ve never been to The Pub at Piper’s Creek before. Judging from the outside, I’d be just about as excited to walk in there as I would be to walk into a motel on Aurora Avenue. But inside, it’s actually quite pleasant and quickly turns its stereotype around into a friendly pub with soccer on the TV and a great selection of beers on tap. I bucked the stereotype too, as I have a tendency to miss the memos saying that people wear black to bars. So, I walked in with my pink Beer Blog t-shirt and extremely adorable dangly pink earrings, feeling a little like Reese Witherspoon in “Legally Blonde.”

Editor's note: This is not North Seattle Sarah.

Although the evening was put on by Skagit River and Left Hand Brewing, this night was really about the tatts. Ink Bomb Tattoo was already set up in the corner when I arrived, placing fresh ink on Michael Boston of the Pub.

The Ink Bomb girls Sarah and Christina showed me their extremely detailed tattoos and tried (unsuccessfully) to talk me into one.

You could either get a tattoo of your choosing for a regular fee, or get a special tattoo created to mold the two brewery’s logos together at no cost (thanks to Skagit Valley and Left Hand for footing the bill for this popular tattoo!). That tattoo used the skull of the Scullers IPA with a left hand symbol within it.

I did enjoy the beer too – despite being Seattle Beer Week it was fun to see a Colorado brewery on tap, and I did try Left Hand’s Weak Sauce (yummy). Congrats to everyone that left the pub with new ink last night!
