It’s a West Seattle thing. You wouldn’t understand.

Big Al Brewing teamed up with The Feedback Lounge and is introducing a summer seasonal beer. The beer, a Kolsch, will be named LÖWMAN BRÄU. The official release date for the beer is June 15th. The beer will only be available at select locations in the greater West Seattle and White Center area. Okay, maybe we will share some of it with our friends down in Georgetown. Eventually. Maybe.

“Here’s to good friends, tonight is kind of special…”

A few months ago, I was tipping back a few coldies at one of my local West Seattle watering holes. You know, just hangin’ with a few of my westie-besties. The topic of conversation was West Seattle beer names. This might not make sense to those of you who don’t know West Seattle, but we threw out a whole bunch of clever, silly names for such a beer.

For instance: Lincoln Lager (named after Lincoln Park), Hiawathaweizen (named after Hiawatha Park), and Mee-Kwa-Lobe (named after Mee-Kwa-Mooks Park). Eventually we all agreed that the plan’s originators had already found the best name: LÖWMAN BRÄU, a play on the name Lowenbrau and a tribute to West Seattle’s Lowman Beach Park.

The plan was hatched by the owners of The Feedback Lounge, which many beer-geeks might recognize as the bar next to the Beveridge Place Pub (blog sponsor). In fact, The Feedback occupies a highly reconfigured version of the space that used to be the Beveridge Place Pub.

Jeff Gilbert and his crew at The Feedback Lounge teamed up with Big Al Brewing to make a very West Seattle beer. Proceeds from the beer will benefit a number of charitable causes around the West Seattle and White Center area.

Everybody sing along. “Here’s to good friends, tonight is kind of special, the beer will pour, must say something more, so tonight… tonight… Let it LÖWMAN BRÄU,.

It’s not a press release, but here’s some information about LÖWMAN BRÄU, from The Feedback Lounge website.

LÖWMAN BRÄU, a new local beer, is a tasty summer Kölsch made by West Seattle, for West Seattle. In fact, if you wanna drink it, you either gotta live here or come to West Seattle, because this is OUR beer – and we don’t wanna share it with just any Ballard.

………………………………………………..

LÖWMAN BRÄU was conceived and named in 2010 by the owners of The Feedback Lounge in West Seattle’s Morgan Junction. Over the course of last year, we modified our concept, contacted master brewer Alejandro Brown over at the way cool Big Al Brewing in White Center, and invited some of our fellow bar/restaurant owners together to present a local beer that’s not only West Seattle-centric in its name (you’ve heard of our locally famous Lowman Beach, yes?), but is designed to support our totally kick ass neighborhood and community.

We each do this by pledging a percentage of every pint sold during LÖWMAN BRÄU’s limited summer run to West Seattle/White Center-only charities. So yeah, another excellent reason to drink this awesome beer!

………………………………………………..

THE FEEDBACK LOUNGE, along with our friends at WEST 5, SHADOWLAND, MISSION, EASY STREET RECORDS, THE BRIDGE, LOCÖL, BEVERIDGE PLACE PUB, COMPANY BAR, and of course, BIG AL BREWING, is introducing LÖWMAN BRÄU to the entire West Seattle community, all on the same night in each of our establishments.

On WEDNESDAY, JUNE 15, 7PM, all the participating venues (see below) will hold a 21 & older premier party for LÖWMAN BRÄU, so whichever place is your hangout, we got you covered.

………………………………………………..

HOW COME LÖWMAN BRÄU IS LIMITED?
Due to limited cold storage space and economics, LÖWMAN BRÄU will have a calculated run. That, and to adhere to Big Al Brewing’s strict freshness policy. If Al makes too much and it doesn’t get consumed in a timely fashion, that’s a lot of flat – and wasted – beer. Money, too.

HOW IS LÖWMAN BRÄU SOLD – BOTTLES? CANS? KEGS?
In order to keep start-up costs down, we’re only offering LÖWMAN BRÄU as pint pours from kegs. Bottles and cans are wasteful, costly, and hey – they don’t hold very much beer. LÖWMAN BRÄU will only be sold at participating West Seattle venues.

WHAT IS A KÖLSCH STYLE BEER?
A Kölsch is a clear beer with a bright straw-yellow hue, and a prominent, but not extreme, hoppiness. It’s less bitter than a standard German pale lager. Kölsch is another word for delicious!

I OWN A BAR/RESTAURANT IN WEST SEATTLE – HOW CAN I CARRY LÖWMAN BRÄU?
LÖWMAN BRÄU will be made available to any liquor licensed West Seattle/White Center/Georgetown venue not initially participating in the roll-out through K&L Distributors after July 1st, 2011. It will be up to each bar/restaurant to participate in the charity aspect or not, and to set their own price as well.

IF YOU RUN OUT, CAN YOU MAKE MORE?
Sorta. LÖWMAN BRÄU is a spring/summer beer; if all goes well, in the Fall we, along with Big Al Brewing, will introduce a glowing amber ale, and in the winter, a hearty and darker, flavorful face-warmer. And all of these will be for West Seattle charities as well. By drinking LÖWMAN BRÄU you’ll help ensure another batch next year, as well as helping to support our neighbors who need help.

WHAT WEST SEATTLE CHARITIES WILL BENEFIT FROM THE SALES PERCENTAGE OF LÖWMAN BRÄU?
Each participating bar and restaurant is donating to their favorite West Seattle charity – be sure to ask when ordering a pint where proceeds are going!

WHAT ARE THE NAMES OF THE PLANNED SEASONAL BEERS?
It’s a surprise, but if you live in West Seattle and know this community like the back of your hand, you’ll get a kick out of the names we’ve planned for them. Very West Seattle, of course.

WHY A WEST SEATTLE-ONLY BEER?
Because we think West Seattle is so cool, it deserves its own beverage.
