I have never been to the Hop Scotch Spring Beer and Scotch Festival. For whatever reason, there has always been a conflict. Not this year! What’s more, the Washington Beer Blog is giving you and a guest an opportunity to join us for free. Hopping into Spring
The event takes place this weekend (Friday and Saturday) at Fremont Studios, which is conveniently located kitty-corner from Brouwer’s Cafe. The event is a benefit for the Seattle International Film Festival. There are two sessions: Friday 5:00 -12:00 and Saturday 1:00 – 12:00. You can get tickets online at the Hop Scotch website.
This year Hop Scotch will feature more than 60 beers. Washington breweries include Diamond Knot Brewing, Flyers Brewing, Fremont Brewing, Georgetown Brewing, Lazy Boy Brewing, Mac and Jack’s Brewery, Redhook Ale Brewery, Silver City Brewery, Snoqualmie Falls Brewing, and Trade Route Brewing.

Notable out-of-state breweries include Stone, Firestone Walker, Ninkasi, Mad River, Nectar Ales, New Belgium, and Lagunitas to name a few.
While Hop Scotch’s beer selection might not be as sexy as more seriously beer-geeky events, there are plenty of things to pique my interest. I’m particularly looking forward to the Seattle Weekly Voracious Brew—an Imperial Red Ale brewed by Lazy Boy Brewing. Lagunitas’ Little Sumpin Wild also sounds interesting. Surprisingly, Widmer Brothers Brewing is bringing a couple of beers that I have yet to try.
Booze and Wine
For you whiskey lovers, Hop Scotch offers some delicious treats. You can try the Scotch sampler—a self-guided flight of 5-¼ oz. Scotches. If you’re really serious, the event offers Scotch Seminars: private one-hour educational seminars led by one of the nation’s leading whiskey experts. The whiskey lineup for the seminars is pretty amazing and includes one of my personal favorites, Cardhu 12.
Friday features one seminar at 7:00 p.m. Saturday offers three more at 2:00, 4:00, and 7:00. They sell out quickly. Register on the website.
The event will also feature a Tequila Sampler. That sounds a bit dangerous. A number of Washington wines will also be available at the event.
