Composer Mark Bittler to Perform His Original Soundtrack to Silent Film Classic ‘Metropolis’

Musician and composer Mark Bittler of Centralia, Wash., will be giving two performances of his original soundtrack alongside a showing of the 1927 science-fiction silent film classic “Metropolis” in October. This year marks the 10th anniversary since Bittler’s first performance of the piece at Diamond Knot Alehouse, Mukilteo.

The first performance, to be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 22, at McMenamin’s Olympic Club, 112 N. Tower Ave., Centralia, will benefit the Philanthropic Educational Organization, Chapter JE of Chehalis. Tickets are $8 presale or $10 at the door, and all proceeds benefit women’s scholarships given through P.E.O.

The second performance will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26, at the Diamond Knot Production Brewery & Taproom, 4602 Chennault Beach Road, Mukilteo. Admission will be by donation to the Mukilteo Food Bank.

“I feel I have captured the essence of the movie in my score. It was exciting to write music for a movie I’ve deeply loved since I was a kid. I’m looking forward to the first performance in 10 years of this piece and am excited for the upcoming performances of my other silent film scores including ‘Der Golem,’ ‘Nosferatu,’ ‘Cabinet of Dr. Caligari’ and ‘Phantom of the Opera,’” Bittler said.

Bittler has been composing music for nearly 40 years and is currently the keyboardist for Seattle-based original funk and soul band Bump Kitchen.
