Lucky Envelope Brewing announces opening day

Updated May 6th: Below, some pictures we took at a Lucky Envelope preview event last week. Lucky Envelope Brewing plans to celebrate the kickoff of Seattle Beer Week with a grand opening celebration, as we reported in the original post below. Ballard’s newest brewery is conveniently located deliciously close to three other breweries: Reuben’s Brews, Stoup Brewing and Populux Brewing are all within stumbling distance. Park once, and visit them all.

As for the beers, the IPA is solid as is the British Stout. The stand out for me was the Helles Lager, but the Thaiger Mom Belgian Trippel is probably going to get a lot of attention too.

As far as the name “Lucky Envelope” is concerned. It has to do with a Chinese tradition of using red envelopes, or packets, as a way of gifting money. Usually, its a gift from parents or grandparents. Raymond explains that it is away to honor and reference his Chinese heritage without getting too confusing: the Mandarin word for lucky envelope is hongbaoin and in Cantonese it’s lai seein.

“We are excited to announce the grand opening of our tasting room on Thursday, May 7th at 3:00 PM, which coincides with the beginning of Seattle Beer Week,” said Raymond Kwan on the Lucky Envelope blog. “On tap for opening day will be our IPA, Fog Dart Pale Ale, Seattle Helles Lager, Thaiger Mom Belgian Trippel, British Stout, limited release Cherry Stout, and homemade soda.”

Don Lucho’s (Seattle’s first Peruvian food cart) will offer Peruvian sandwiches starting at 4:00 PM. The tasting room will also be selling some snacks. Children and well-behaved dogs are welcome at the Lucky Envelope tasting room.
