Naked City celebrates 10 years with celebrations and a big announcement

Naked City Brewery and Taphouse opened for business in Seattle’s Greenwood neighborhood in October 2008. In fact, the news of that opening was one of the first stories we ever published here on the Washington Beer Blog. Along with everything else that has happened over the course of 10 years, Naked City opened a second location on Camano Island in 2017. To celebrate the business’ 10th anniversary, they will host parties at both locations, in Seattle on Saturday, October 20th and at the Camano Island location on Saturday, November 3rd. Details about both events below.

The company is also running a photo contest for the best memories of Naked City. The winning entry gets a prize package valued at $300 that includes a Greenwood Mug Club Membership. All eligible entries must be submitted via Facebook by October 14. See the Naked City Facebook page. Post photos on Facebook using the hashtag #ncbc10th.

“And to celebrate ten great years of beer with friends, the Greenwood pub is launching its first Mug Club,” the company recently announced. “There are many sweet perks for Club Members—find out all the details at the anniversary party and get the Early Bird Special on a 2019 Membership, which includes two free months! Folks can also pre-order limited edition brewer’s shirts, and pick up special anniversary t-shirts, Yankee Drifter 6-packs, and the 2018 vintage of Naked City’s award-winning The Big Lebrewski, available on draft and limited edition 22 oz bottles.”

Along with that news, the company just announced that most of its beers are now gluten-removed. While they cannot use the term “gluten-free,” Naked City uses an enzyme that removes gluten from the beer. This is great news for people looking to reduce or restrict gluten intake, though it is not necessarily a green light for people who must adhere to an entirely gluten-free diet.

“Naked City has been secretly removing gluten from most of its house-brewed beers for nearly two years,” says a press release from the company. “During this time, Naked City’s pub in Seattle has been the highest-rated brewpub in Washington on Ratebeer.com. Naked City is brewing the same great beer you love—the announcement doesn’t change a thing! Unless you’re keeping an eye on your gluten intake. Naked City beers are gluten removed using Brewer’s Clarex®, a natural way to break down the gluten in malted barley to less than ten parts-per-million.”
