New brewery opening Sunday, December 17th in Tenino – Scatter Creek Brewing

(Photo above from the Scatter Creek Brewing Facebook page.) Scatter Creek Brewing in Tenino, WA opens for business tomorrow (Sunday, Dec. 17th). Andrea and Terril Keary opened Scatter Creek Winery 13 years ago operating out of their garage, but tomorrow they introduce their brewery in downtown Tenino.

For years the couple hoped to open a brewery of the same name, but Washington’s Liquor Laws forbade a winery from operating as a brewery and vise versa. The two businesses could not occupy the same space, basically. That law changed about a year ago and now Scatter Creek is allowed to be both a brewery and a winery.

According to a report on YelmOnline.com, Terril and Andrea plan to take a different sort of approach, bucking the current trends in craft breweries. They will focus on Irish-, German- and European-style beers, using traditional recipes. Of course they’ll have an IPA on tap, too. For the grand opening they will tap five beers: a pale ale, key lime IPA, an authentic German Hefeweizen, a porter and a stout.
