New Brewpub Opens Monday: Pictures from Elliott Bay’s New Lake City Way Pub

Elliott Bay Brewing Company is about to open its third brewpub: Elliott Bay Public House and Brewery. On Monday, March 26th at 11:00 a.m. the much-anticipated Lake City Way location opens for business. Last night we attended a very soft opening event. The ink was barely dry on the last of the permits. We took a lot of pictures so you’ll know what to expect.

Here’s a tip: The parking lot is around back. Although the address is on Lake City Way, find the parking lot on 30th Ave. NE.

Elliott Bay assembled an all star lineup in Lake City. Manning the brewhouse is Bill Jenkins, the former head brewer at Big Time Brewery in the University District. The brewhouse at the new location has been operational for a while and the restaurant has finally passed all inspections and is ready to play catch-up. In the kitchen, as we recently reported, Elliott Bay landed the services of Warren Peterson, formerly a sous chef and the Beer Czar at Tom Douglas Restaurants (read it). Overseeing the kitchen is Executive Chef, Kerry White, who manages all three Elliott Bay restaurants.

Bill’s first creation in the new brewhouse: Lake City IPA. It is good. Of course it is. Bill is a Hop Wizard of the highest order. I don’t think he is capable of making an IPA that is anything less than spectacular. Actually, I challenge him to make a bad beer. No, scratch that idea. I’m sure he could make a wonderfully lousy beer if he tried.

If you’re familiar with either of the other locations (West Seattle and Burien), then you know what to expect from Elliott Bay Brewing Company: good food, good prices, great service, great people, and great beer. At Lake City, you’ll find a wide-open, kid-friendly dining room with a big skylight for natural light and huge flat-screen TVs for sports fans. The bar is longer than the other two locations with more seats, more taps and more room for guest taps, with Chef Warren helping decide what will pour. Two wood barn doors slide open to reveal a private dining room with a flat screen TV. The brewhouse is at the back of the pub so you’ll probably see it on the way in – you’re likely to find parking in the 60+ car lot behind the pub.

While we didn’t get a sneak peek at the menu, the table-top displays revealed something new at Lake City – a lineup of milkshakes and floats.

The two masterminds behind the Elliott Bay empire are Brent Norton and Todd Carden. The two met many years ago while working at Maritime Pacific Brewing Company.  George Hancock, the owner of Maritime Pacific, was at the new pub last night to help celebrate.

We expect the new brewpub to be very popular. Let’s face it, the north end of Lake City Way – Bothell, Kenmore, Lake Forest Park – is a bit of a wasteland when it comes to good pubs. Once you get north of Cooper’s, Hudson Public House, and Fiddler’s Inn, your beer and food choices get pretty slim. Beer Authority is a good choice for beer, but for beer and food… Lake City is rather bleak. We anticipate the new Elliott Bay Public House and Brewery to attract beer-loving regulars in search of grub from as far away as Bothell and Woodinville.

Congratulations to our friends at Elliott Bay Brewing! We’ll see you again soon.
