A New Head Brewer at Rock Bottom, Bellevue: Sara Luchi

Some weeks ago at the local watering hole, we ran into Brian Young, the decorated and revered Head Brewer at Rock Bottom Restaurant and Brewery in Bellevue. Brian informed us that he resigned his position with Rock Bottom and was moving on to pursue new challenges. For the unenlightened, Brian pumped out some truly excellent beers at Rock Bottom. We have no word yet on his next career move, but we just learned who Rock Bottom found to replace Brian: Sara Luchi, formerly of Silver City Brewery.

Congratulations to Sara Luchi. According to Silver City’s weekly newsletter, Sara will now be the Head Brewer at Rock Bottom Bellevue. Yesterday was Sara’s last day with Silver City Brewery, where she had worked since 2009 as a brewer and the cellar lead. Her career with Silver City actually began in 2007 when she worked as a host at the restaurant. In the newsletter, Silver City described the situation as “bittersweet.” They are sad to see her go, but proud of her and wish her nothing but success.

The Washington Beer Blog wishes Sara Luchi nothing but the best as she moves onward and upward. We look forward to watching her career progress.

  1. Congratulations Sara! Silver City’s loss is Rock Bottoms gain. Brian left big boots to fill, but I trust you’ll bring your own stamp to the beer line-up.

  2. Every young up and coming brewer who may one day open their own brewery is great news for Washington craft brewing. I only hope Sara’s new masters in Chattanooga won’t limit her career growth. As for Brian: I’m curious to learn where he’s headed, particularly if he plans to resurface in the greater Seattle area; it would be fantastic to down a tasting flight of his brews freed from corporate shackles.

  3. I have spoken with Brian since his departure from RB. He is taking some time. He will resurface. When he does, I imagine we will be the first to tell the story.
