New Years Eve at the Parkway Tavern

– by Casey McLain, South Sound Bureau Chief –

From the bar that brought you “Honey, The Parkway Ruined Thanksgiving… Again” comes an event that doesn’t boast a hilarious name, but that should be a similarly excellent time. The Parkway Tavern in Tacoma has something special in store for its patrons come New Year’s Eve, as they’ll have 12 beers on tap from Dogfish Head Brewery.

Parkway Tavern has been a leader in Tacoma’s craft beer scene for decades, celebrating its 80th birthday earlier this year, and you can help ring in their first new year as octogenarians.

I have a personal connection to The Parkway Tavern’s New Year’s celebration. A few years back the woman who would become my wife and the guy who would be my best man were celebrating New Years with me by both falling asleep before 11PM. We had been indecisive about where we would celebrate the new year, and our fate seemed all but sealed as they were sawing logs at an hour more appropriate for someone who attended Parkway’s grand opening. I rallied the troops, and we trudged through cold weather to the warm and friendly confines of The Parkway Tavern, and even found a table. Great beer on tap, and a surprising champagne toast helped perk up my apparently-weary companions.
