From McMenamins: “The Heavy Mountain Gorilla is malty, slightly sweet, and reddish in color. This ale is necessarily hoppier than the Regular IPA in order to balance against the huge amount of Pilsen, Vienna and C60 crystal malt that serve as its base. Don’t miss this chance to saddle up to the bar and channel your inner primate with this fearsome double IPA crafted by Mill Creek’s Tannar Brewer. Malt: GW Superior Pilsen, GW C60 and GW Vienna. Hops: Chinook, Centenial, Citra and Amarillo. ABV: 8.14 percent.”

This Saturday: 16th Annual Olympic Club Brewfest, Centralia

More than just a beer festival, the Olympic Club Brewfest features an impressive lineup of live music and a “Whiskey Pass to the World” tasting, featuring a number of different whiskeys from distilleries around the globe.

How’s about some history, a lot of beer, “the world’s best baked beans” and more beer? Sounds good, right? Well it is.

In one of its most popular events of the year, the historic 1908 Olympic Club hosts their annual brewfest every May, in which our McMenamins’ Washington brewers along with guest brewers and importers gather together to pour their finest. Past guest participants have included Dick’s Brewing (Centralia, WA), Snoqualmie Falls Brewing Company (Snoqualmie Falls, WA), Iron Horse Brewery (Ellensburg, WA), Merchant Du Vin Importer (Tukwila, WA) and Diamond Knot Brewery (Mukilteo, WA).

In addition to soaking up the atmosphere of one of McMenamins’ most legendary establishments – with its history of railway bootlegging, captured train robbers, secret call buttons, subterranean tunnels, rumored hauntings and more – beer enthusiasts can also tour the Olympic Club brewery, relax in the outdoor seating area, play a round or two of pool and enjoy specials from the open-pit barbecue, including bratwurst, tri-tip steak and burgers with those famous baked beans.
