A lot of beer news comes across the wire here at Central Command. Sometimes it piles up and just needs to be thrown out there for you to consume without hoopla, fanfare or pretty pictures. Just the facts. So here is a bunch of random stuff that deserves mention.

Portland Beer Week – Seattle area beer lovers are gearing up for Seattle Beer Week (May 10 -20). We’ll be posting some detailed info soon. Portland Beer Week runs from June 7 -17. Portland Beer Week is a lot like Seattle Beer Week. Like I always say: Portland, it’s like Seattle with a lot less latitude.
Bob’s Brown Ale – Georgetown Brewing releases Bob’s Brown Ale every spring. It is a beer designed specifically to benefit the Ronald McDonald House. This year Georgetown aims to raise $70,000 for the cause. In a couple of weeks you will start seeing Bob’s Brown Ale on tap at better beer bars around the Seattle area. It’s a darn tasty beer and you are supporting a worthy cause with every sip. The official release party, which is always a serious humdinger, takes place at the Nickerson Street Saloon on Monday, May 14 at 3:00.
Pike Space Needle IPA – In case you missed it, to help celebrate its 50th Anniversary, the Space Needle wanted to commission a beer. They staged a competition, challenging a group of local breweries to devise a special anniversary beer. Pike Brewing won. Read about it here. The Pike Space Needle IPA was officially released on April 21st. Limited quantities will be available at the Space Needle, at The Pike Pub, and at select pubs, restaurants, and stores throughout the city. Keep an eye out for it. We understand they’ll be pouring it at tasting stations on the observation deck. Pretty cool.
Flock Party this Saturday – Black Raven Brewing in Redmond hosts the Annual Flock Party this Saturday, May 5th. The event is for grownups only; this is no place for children. The Black Raven 3rd anniversary celebration spills out of the taproom and brewery into the parking lot, which is fenced-off and properly secured for the soiree. This is a big ol’ hootenanny, for sure. What else would you expect from Black Raven. Rare and interesting beers? Yes, you should expect those, too. The party runs from Noon until 9:00. Live music all day long, including classic rock from my band (Four on the Floor) at 1:45. Last year some 1,300 people attended this party.
