Today I want to welcome a new sponsor. Actually, it’s two sponsors in one: Icicle Brewing Company and Munchen Haus Bavarian Grill & Beer Garden. Allow me to explain.
By now, I hope everyone knows about Icicle Brewing. Of all the towns in Washington that should have a brewery, Leavenworth is at the top of the list. Everything else about the town is unmistakably Bavarian. Understand that Fish Brewing in Olympia brews the Leavenworth Brewing brand of beers. It’s a long story that is not relevant to this one except in how it relates to Leavenworth’s need for a brewery. When Oliver and Pam Brulotte opened Icicle Brewing Company in 2011, it was long overdue. Immediately embraced by the community and all that. Best of all, the beers were excellent from the get go.
The brewery is beautiful, built to match Leavenworth’s unmistakable Bavarian theme. Read our post about the brewery opening to get more of the story. The beer patio out front is raucous on sunny summer weekends. The confines of the brewpub inside are warm and comforting on cold winter days. Along with an assortment of beers, they offer some munchies. Not a full menu, but a good one. If you want to talk about food, let’s move on to the next part of the story.
Oliver and Pam also own Munchen Haus Bavarian Grill and Beer Garden located just a couple blocks up the street. The couple moved to Leavenworth and opened Munchen Haus at about the same time that Leavenworth Brewing was packing up and moving to Olympia. They built and opened Munchen Haus, but always dreamed of opening a brewery.

Munchen Haus is the best place in town to grab lunch and a beer, which is what you do when you are in Leavenworth. They serve high quality Bratwurst, Currywurst, Kielbasa, and many other traditional and not-so-traditional sausages (think cheddar-jalapeno). I highly recommend the German potato salad. Along with your food, reach for one of several different Icicle Brewing beers, which you’ll find on tap alongside some carefully chosen guest taps.
In my opinion, any trip to Leavenworth is incomplete without a visit to Muchen Haus and Icicle Brewing. That’s why I am so pleased to announce them as sponsors of the Washington Beer Blog.
