The Popularity of Pliny Put to Work

Some time ago I told you about how Wine World & Spirits, one of Seattle’s biggest locally owned alcohol retailers, was delving into the world of beer – offering tasting events, growler fills, and more. Today I want to tell you about how Wine World & Spirits is using the popularity of Pliny the Elder to benefit a worthwhile cause. Learn more here.

Murray Stenson is something of a local celebrity. He is widely credited with having revived the classic cocktail on the Seattle libations scene. His career has seen him tossing shakers at the likes of Il Bistro, Zig Zag Cafe, and Canon. Some time ago, Murray learned that he was going to need surgery to repair a heart valve. Expensive surgery. Like most people in his profession, Stenson does not have medical insurance to help cover the cost of the surgery. For the past few months his friends, colleagues and the industry-at-large have rallied to help raise funds for Murray’s surgery.

Wine World & Spirits will auction off its stash of Pliny the Elder, with proceeds going to support Murray Stenson’s surgery. The event takes place tomorrow (Wednesday, December 19) at Wine World & Spirits in Seattle’s Wallingford neighborhood.

Here are details.

Beverage enthusiasts from near and far to raise funds for the legendary Seattle bartender Murray Stenson. :Like many in the food industry, Murray doesn’t have health insurance but needs open heart surgery to correct a faulty valve. Fund raising efforts are organized by MurrayAID, http://murrayaid.org/

When Wine World & Spirits got a hold of some Pliny the Elder beer from Russian River Brewery, they wanted to harness the allure of Pliny to help out Murray. This double IPA is available in a very limited supply and is one of the most sought beers in the world.. Beer lovers race each other to get a bottle before they sell out, usually less than an hour!

On Wednesday, December 19th, 6-8pm, Wine World & Spirits will host a silent auction for their stash of Pliny the Elder. The starting bid is $7.99 and every dollar bid over $7.99 is going to MurrayAID.  One bottle of Pliny is hard to get but a 6 pack is a major feat because most establishments have a strict one per customer policy. Whoever submits the highest bid will be able to purchase up to 6 bottles, at the bid price per bottle. The second highest bidder may purchase up to three bottles. The remaining bottles will be available for the next higher bidders until the bottles are gone
