Pucker Up, Washington – sour beer fest at Brother Barrel

On Thursday, September 28th, Brother Barrel hosts its first special event — Pucker Up: Washington. The event features a selection of Washington-made sour beers from some of the state’s top sour beer producers. The event also serves as the release party for a new sour beer from Elliott Bay Brewing, Ambrosia Kriek. Furthermore, the kitchen staff at Brother Barrel will offer a special menu designed specifically for the event.

Brother Barrel is the latest outpost for Elliott Bay Brewing Company. See our previous story. Located right next door to the Elliott Bay Public House in Seattle’s Lake City neighborhood, Brother Barrel is an adults-only beer hall and eatery dedicated to serving barrel-aged and sour beers, as well as delicious craft cocktails and other libations.

At Pucker Up: Washington, guests can order three different sized pours (2, 4 or 8 ounces) of four different Elliott Bay Brewing sours: Chucked Berries, Westland Barrel-Aged Sour Porter, Sour Wheat, and Ambrosia Kriek. In addition, Brother Barrel will offer sour beers and ciders from a number of guest breweries, including Bainbridge Island Brewing, Dragonhead Ciders, Engine House #9, Finnriver Cider, Holy Mountain Brewing, Lucky Envelope Brewing, Reuben’s Brews, Snowdrift Cider, Schooner Exact Brewing, Urban Family Brewing, and Wander Brewing.

About Elliott Bay’s new sour: “Ambrosia Kriek, a Flemish red style sour beer, was aged for 10 months. We added Montmorency Cherries and Red Raspberries and then refermented in the barrels for another 5 months. The beer is ruby red with aromas of fresh raspberries and tart cherries. It has a strong acidity that is balanced by the oak and fresh fruit additions.”

  1. Sour beers are definitely something that take some time to get used to. They are starting to grow on me, but it is gonna take some time yet. I see them be coming very big in the future though, and you guys are getting in on the ground floor before that happens.
