Puyallup River Brewing Ups the Ante – Opening New Taphouse

It has been some time since we’ve heard from our North Seattle Bureau Chief (aka North Seattle Sarah). We were getting worried that maybe she’d gotten lost in the mysterious vortex between Green Lake and Phinneywood. But what is she doing talking about Puyallup? Whatever the case, we sure are glad that Sarah is back on screen. So without further adieu, here is the latest installment from Sarah.

What’s Brewing at Puyallup River Brewing

by North Seattle Sarah – Washington Beer Blog’s North Seattle Bureau Chief –

Now let’s see…Kevin Bacon was in Tremors with Reba McIntyre who was in…okay, perhaps I can’t make the connection back to us.  But have you noticed that everyone in the Washington beer industry seems pretty intertwined?  I first met Eric Akeson of Puyallup River Brewing through the kind folks at Naked City Brewing in Greenwood, which is how this north Seattle gal is writing a story about beer in Puyallup.  But not just any story about beer in Puyallup: a special announcement that is long overdue.

Puyallup River Brewing has signed a lease to take over the old “Pioneer Bakery” spot at 120 South Meridian in downtown Puyallup.  Until now, Akeson has been running his whole brewery operation out of a 500 square building, and PRB (not to be confused with PBR) has taken off in a big way.  Sold at most of the local bottle shops and on tap mostly around the south end – and often at Naked City – Puyallup River has been operating for a little under a year with huge success.

“The reaction from everyone this past year has been terrific,” said Akeson.  “I’ve had a lot of support and am excited to start the next phase of this business, providing a great craft beer experience in downtown Puyallup.”

The new taphouse is on track to open early next year and will have 24 taps including a good selection of both Puyallup River brews and rotating locals, plus cider.  They’ll also have a selection of regional wines and canned craft beer, and will offer taster flights.  And you can definitely get your beer to-go with growler fills.

Puyallup River Brewing will be strictly a taphouse – no food cooked onsite – but patrons are encouraged to bring in their own food or order take-out from any of the local spots nearby.  And you’ll want to sit and stay awhile – the place will have four big screen TV’s for your favorite sporting events, as well as a pool table & a few classic arcade games.
