Reuben’s Brews releases latest Crush Series IPA in cans

UPDATE – We’ve learned that the cans are now sold out. Last we checked, still on tap at the taproom.

Reuben’s Brews released the latest beer in its Crush Series on Saturday, December 17th. The Crush Series started out back in October as a series of crushable Northeast-style IPAs. First up, they did Cloud Crush,  a soft, hazy, pillowy IPA brewed with Galaxy hops. In November they released Citra Crush, which they brewed with Citra hops. The latest rendition is Azacca crush. You guessed it, brewed with Azacca hops. The Crush Series beers are only available at the Reuben’s Brews taproom in Ballard.

The Crush Series is described as a series of juicy, fruity Northeast-style IPAs. This is the first Crush Series beer to make it into cans, but it won’t be the last. Cans or not, the Crush Series beers are only available at the Reuben’s Brews Taproom.

According to the brewery, “The Azacca Crush has tastes of mango, pineapple, orange, and has a juicy hazy body. It has pineapple in the nose, but comes across as mango on the pallet. This Crush series contains lactose to give it a smooth fruity taste. Almost like a smoothy!”

In case you didn’t know… It’s a fairly new term on the beer scene: Northeast IPA or Northeast-style IPA. Basically, these beers are fermented using a certain yeast strain that helps lend a particularly fruity character to the beer. Apparently this yeast strain, and IPAs brewed with it, are popular in the Northeastern part of the country. Some say the name is simply a reference to the super-popular Heady Topper Double IPA, brewed by The Alchemist brewery in Vermont. Heady Topper is probably the most-ballyhooed beer in America right now. The new Pliny, so to speak.
