Sad to report the passing of Dick Young

It is with a very, very heavy heart that we report that Dick Young, the man behind Centralia’s Dick’s Brewing Company, has passed away. Complete details are not yet confirmed, but we thought we should report what we know. Dick apparently died of a heart attack suffered while working at his cabin in Lewis County. It happened over the weekend, perhaps as recently as last night.

This is a tremendous loss for the Washington brewing community. Dick Young was an icon. He represented the very best that the Washington beer community has ever offered the world — a vibrant personality, sincere passion for beer, and a genuine kindness that was recognized by everyone he met.

We will pass along more information as it becomes available. In the meantime we extend our sincere condolences to his family, his employees and coworkers, and to the many, many people who called Dick a friend – which was basically every person he ever met.

  1. Love Dick’s brews. Met him once as he was passong through Bellingham on his way to Whistler, we had a fun little pub crawl to the bars in town that served his beer. A great and fun guy. We’ll miss you Dick.

  2. Mrs. Beer Blog here. I wanted to add that Kendall and I first met over a Dick’s Danger, then one of our first dates was a trip to Dick’s in Centralia for a brewery tour, beer and sandwich. Dick and Dick’s Brewing has a special place in our hearts and we are very sad indeed to get this news today. Our best to his family, employees and regulars.
