Seattle Beer Week Events at Latona Pub

Seattle Beer Week kicks off on Thursday, May 12th and runs through Sunday, Mat 22nd. There are dozens of events happening around the Seattle area. Here’s what is happening at Latona Pub.

Thursday 5/12 Charlie 1981 & Official SBW Beer Release

We kick off SBW with a tribute beer from the Rogue Brewing Co. – Charlie 1981. Charlie is named for Charlie Papazian, home brewer extraordinaire, president of the Association of Brewers, founder of the American Homebrewers Association and author of “The New Complete Joy of Homebrewing”.

John Maier brewed his first batch of beer using that book as his guide, and we figure what better way to kick of a week of craft beer events than paying tribute to a true pioneer. We will also be kicking off SBW with the official beer of SBW, the Daily Pale from Reuben’s brews. Kickoff time is 5:30 which is exactly when we will tap.

Friday 5/13 Sierra Nevada and Happy Hour Jazz

Two of our favorites unite again as the Phil Sparks trio will play (5-7pm) while we hang with the folks from Sierra Nevada. We will be pouring 6 “Beer Camp Across America” beers – insane collaborations from breweries all over the country. These are rare beers and we’re excited to be able to have them all in one place and on tap. For more info check beercamp.sierranevada.com.

Saturday 5/14 65th Street Ale series release

Many years ago our friends at Hales Ales brewed 65th street ale. Now our friends at Stoup have brewed the next in the series “My own private IPA” brewed with all Idaho hops and to be poured up and down 65th street – From the Ravenna alehouse to the Dray and everywhere in between. We’ll be releasing it Saturday night with Jason and Brad from Stoup so be sure and check out this fun beer.

Monday 5/16 Backwoods\Everybody\Ashtown Brewer’s Night

2 of our old favorites and the new kid on the block. Celebrate the brewers of the Columbia River Gorge with White Salmon, Carson, and Longview, WA all represented in what is sure to be a great night. Kevin, Doug, and Jarrett will all be here pouring special beers and old favorites…whose IPA will be the crowd favorite? There’s only one way to find out, but stopping by and trying all 3.

Wednesday 5/18 Cask Fest

Home to Seattle’s First ever cask beer festival, the Latona Pub has a rich history with cask beer. Once again we will cover the bar in naturally carbonated, probably dry-hopped, and delicious ales. Watch as we tap with aplomb and hope for the best, as with these ales you never know if they’re slightly overcarbonated and a beer shower will ensue. We’ll start tapping at 5:30 and look forward to sharing these fresh and original ales with you.

Thursday 5/19 80s Night

Harkening back to an era of big hair, neon, spandex, acid washed denim, and awesome movies, the gang from Hales, Redhook, and Pike will be here as representatives of the Seattle breweries that brewed in the 80s and still brew today. We’ll have the bigscreen down with some timeless classic movies playing, there will be a fair amount of monster ballads playing on the speakers, and who knows what we’ll all be wearing in tribute to the singularly amazing decade that was the 80s.

Friday 5/20 Lazy Boy and Jazz

When one of our favorite brewers (Nick Kanarr) gets a new job with one of our favorite established breweries (Lazy Boy) it’s high time to hang out during friday Jazz. Nick will be releasing a new beer here, and we’ll get to try some more new and improved Lazy Boy Ales. Jazz will be 5-7, so as beer week draws to a close it’ll be a good chance to squeeze in one more event.

Sunday 5/22 Half Price Bottles of Wine and Bluegrass.

There’s a classic exchange in the wine industry “What does it take to make great wine?”

“A whole lotta beer”

Well, after a long week of beer and fun we figure a nice glass of wine and some low-key bluegrass is the perfect night cap. So pop a bottle (at half price no less) relax and enjoy. The Wild Hares will be pickin and strumming from 8-10.
