Seattle’s iconic The Red Door announces it is closing after 31+ years

Well, this is hard to report. This one hurts. So many memories. One of Seattle’s first bars to focus on craft beer, The Red Door, just announced that it will close at the end of its current lease. Back then, we called them microbrews and The Red Door in Fremont was one of the only places in the city where you could find more than one or two of them on tap. The original Red Door opened in 1988. Now, they are slated to close on March 8th

I will have more to report in the coming days, but for now, here is the announcement that showed up on Facebook today:

Friends,
It is with great sadness that we share that we will be closing the Red Door at the end of our current lease, and our last day of business will be Sunday, March 8th.

We take our stewardship of this historic building and business seriously, but we just aren’t able to make it work financially. We notified our team in person today and will be doing anything we can to support them in this transition.

We are grateful for you, and each and every person who has come through our doors – whether customer, supplier or team member – and will miss being a part of our wonderful Fremont community.

Please join us often between now and March 8th to raise a glass and celebrate the 31 years we’ve had together.

With gratitude,
Pete and Emily

  1. Moved to Seattle 25 years ago last month and I had my first beer as a resident at the Red Door (when the door was on Fremont Ave). Sorry to hear this news.

  2. Met my wife at the old Red Door 28 years ago. Sad to hear. That day was a special moment in my life.

  3. Thank you Pete and Emily for all you’ve contributed to Fremont, Seattle nightlife, Local beverage producers and small businesses, and just being a bright star in our dear city. I’ll miss the Red Door! Shine on you crazy diamond!

  4. One of my favorite places, especially with the windows open on a nice sunny day. Just a beautiful establishment. You will be missed!

  5. Pete and Emily,

    Thanks for all the memories,

-the Brain, the Face, and the Legend

P.S. We still have the coin table. It’s in the wheelhouse atop Fremont Boat Company.
