The event’s residency, aptly named Sunday Service,  will feature Prototype’s award-winning rotating artisanal coffees and locally made snacks, along with (sister organization) West Craft Specialty Import’s (and friends) selection of rare and hard to find craft beers that have been sourced exclusively for these events. There will be something for everyone with featured lagers, sours, barrel-aged beers, hazy india pale ales, milkshake india pale ales, fruit beers and more. Garden Path Fermentation, Chuckanut Brewery, Nickel Brook Brewing, Three Magnets Brewing Dwinell Country Ales, Australia’s Wildflower Brewing + Blending, and Vermont’s Hill Farmstead Brewery will either all be on tap, in cans and in bottles for the very first time in East Vancouver. The coffee roaster was recently nominated as one of the world’s top seven new coffee destinations by global coffee culture magazine Sprudge.

The group’s organizer, Mike Willis adds, “When we started planning this event back in September, we saw an article where the Greater Vancouver Food Bank was reporting that they were anticipating a shortage of volunteers and supplies for the upcoming season” and we took it upon ourselves to consult local organizations, our favourite little coffee shop in East Vancouver, and our beer suppliers – and their friends – to put together an event to help people who are in need.” West Craft is targeting to raise around $1,000 in their first residency in the space to support the Greater Vancouver Food Bank. “The beers being featured are a selection of some of our favourites and others that have been on our wish list to bring to this side of the world- for the first time to beer drinkers –  for a very long time. We know a lot of great people who have helped us and we hope that we can continue this with their help after our first five week residency”. In addition to this event, the five week residency will close with a launch of a beer that was made in collaboration with the coffee roaster and Ontario’s Nickel Brook Brewing that will also be included in the lineup of beers to raise money for fresh food for the Greater Vancouver Food Bank.”

About The Greater Vancouver Food Bank (GVFB)

The Greater Vancouver Food Bank is a non-profit organization with a mission to create strong, connected communities through the power of food. We offer regular access to healthy food, education and training in welcoming, dignified spaces across Vancouver, Burnaby, New Westminster and the North Shore. We rely on donations to provide nutritious food to over 9,000 clients and 73 Community Agency Partners every week; 25% of our clients are children, 45% are adults and 30% are seniors.

The GVFB is committed to our vision of accessible, healthy and sustainable food for all, and we pro-actively work to help alleviate hunger in our communities. While we appreciate the generous donations from the public during the holidays, people need access to nutritious, quality food all year round which means support outside of the traditional giving times of Thanksgiving and Christmas is critical.
