by Kendall Jones, washingtonbeerblog.com
Diamond Knot Brewing Company announced today the kickoff off a Coats for Kids donation program to benefit the children of Domestic Violence Services of Snohomish County.

“This initiative is a great opportunity to continue our history of giving back to our local community, which has supported us for over sixteen years,” said Pat Ringe, Brewmaster.

Beer should be cold. Kids should be warm.

The press release from Diamond Knot says, “As we have already experienced, this winter is going to be a cold one, and in an effort to help these families, Diamond Knot Brewing Company is collecting donations to purchase warm coats and clothing. Our goal is to raise enough money that each child staying in the shelter has a warm coat and hat this winter. It does not take much; just a few dollars can go a very long way to help a child in need.”

Diamond Knot Brewing Company is matching all donations dollar for dollar and is accepting donations at all of its locations (Mukilteo and Camano Island). Donations will be accepted until December 15th.

About Domestic Violence Services of Snohomish County

Domestic Violence Services of Snohomish County is a private, non-profit organization that provides a secure, safe emergency shelter and services for victims of domestic abuse. Most of the women and children staying at the shelter arrive with very little and often without the basic necessities.

by Kendall Jones, washingtonbeerblog.com
Of course, it’s Wednesday so you can expect to find casks at Black Raven and the Malt and Vine. It is, after all, an Oostkant Cask Crawl Wednesday. Other than that, the only thing I’ve come up with as far as “happening tonight” is happening at the 74th Street Alehouse. If you know of something else, please leave a comment and share the information. This is, after all, one of the best party nights of the year – Thanksgiving eve.

The 74th Street Alehouse will have a firkin of Diamond Knot Industrial Ho Ho on the bar tonight. Come on by and sample some of the wintry goodness. The Industrial Ho Ho is certain to warm the cockles of your heart and set your tummy right for digesting massive quantities of Thanksgiving fixins.

by Kendall Jones, washingtonbeerblog.com
The Porterhouse in West Seattle opened in August, as we reported here. Since that time, they have been settling in and working out all the bugs (though we haven’t seen any bugs at all). This coming Tuesday (Oct. 20th, 7:00 pm) the Porterhouse will host its first brewers night celebration. And what better way to do it than to invite Mukilteo’s Diamond Knot Brewery, which just so happens to be celebrating its 15th anniversary this month?

Congratulations to the Porterhouse on hosting its first brewers night. Congratulations to Diamond Knot for 15 years of outstanding beers.

In addition to being a typical brewers night, this event will also feature the introduction of Diamond Knot Ho! Ho!, their winter seasonal. The Porterhouse is located at 2329 California Ave SW, Seattle (map).

The wife and I were wondering aloud recently about exactly when good old fashioned IPA started to turn the corner and become the hop monsters that we now so fondly appreciate. One must remember, there was a time when 75 IBUs was unusual. Practically unheard of. If you were around the beer scene back in the 80′s and 90′s, then you now what I’m talking about. At some point, for each of us, a locally-brewed beer came along that made you say, “Hot damn! Now that’s a hoppy beer!”

Diamond Knot is the one I remember. There was a time when the Diamond Knot booth was the first one I’d hunt down at every brew festival. Sure, there may have been other brewers making beers that, at the time, seemed to be ridiculously over-hopped, but DK is the first one I remember.

As an undergrad, I recall a philosophy professor saying that anybody can come up with radical ideas, but great philosophers introduce the world to radical ideas that are eventually considered normal.

As Diamond Knot winds up their 15th Anniversary celebration week, we’d just like to say thank you. Not only for the IPA, the Industrial XIPA, and the Shipwreck XXXIPA, but also for all of their other great beers. Personally, I’m a big fan of the Possession Porter. Among other tasty DK treats, I’m looking forward to drinking a Diamond Knot Ho Ho next week at the Porterhouse.
