It freaks me out that people go hungry in a nation of such gluttony, a land where obesity is a national epidemic. On top of that, the amount of food we throw away in a week is enough to feed most nations for a year. Actually, it is kind of embarrassing. There is enough food to go around. Nobody should go have to go hungry. Especially children who have no choice in the matter.
Down off of my high horse, I want to tell you about something The Brewmaster’s Taproom is doing to help kids get the food they need to grow and learn. An event on Friday, August 25th will help raise money for the Lunch Program at Cascade Elementary School in Renton.
Here are details about the event.
Cascade Elementary Pint Night
Friday, August 26th
noon – 11:00 PM
No child deserves to go hungry because of circumstances they can’t control, so we’re holding a fundraiser to make sure no child goes hungry this coming school year! School starts in a few weeks and we need to make sure everyone starts off on the right foot! Come drink some beer and help us raise money for the Renton School District – this time specifically for Cascade Elementary!
Some facts about Cascade Elementary:
• Student body consist of 545 students. Currently we have 67% of our student body that qualifies for free/reduce lunch.
• On average 12-15 students per day have a negative balance. A negative balance of $12.00 on their account does not allow a student to have a hot lunch which sometimes causes tears.
• There is a backpack food program that serves over 30 families. Students take home a bag of food every Friday so they have a supplement amount of food for the weekend.
• There are approx. 10 homeless families. They provide transportation to and from school, household supplies, gift cards for food and gift cards for gas. Whatever the need is, we try our best to assist.
We will donate $1 from every pint we sell to the Lunch Program for Cascade Elementary!
