It was a big deal last October when Georgetown Brewing’s Bodhizafa IPA won the most highly coveted beer award in all the land, the Great American Beer Festival Gold Medal in the American IPA category (read about it). Sure, it’s quite an honor that Bodhi outranked some of the finest IPAs in America at the country’s most prestigious beer judging competition, but does that victory even compare to winning the Hoptoberfest IPA tournament at Beveridge Place Pub? Well, Bodhi won them both, so we’ll let the beer pundits argue among themselves while we raise a toast to both impressive victories.
This Thursday, January 5th, Beveridge Place Pub inaugurates Bodhizafa as the house IPA for 2017. You see, to the victor go the spoils, and in this case that means Georgetown’s award-winning IPA is the “always on tap” IPA for the next year, as methodically selected by the pub’s patrons. Understand that the Bev typically goes through something like five kegs of the house IPA per week, so along with being an honor, this victory represents a lot of guaranteed beer sales for Georgetown. And more importantly, it means there is at least one place where you can ALWAYS get a pint of the best IPA in America.
Unlike other people, Beveridge Place Pub is having no trouble getting A-List celebrities to perform at this inauguration. They’ve already secured the services of Manny Chao and Roger Bialous, founders of Georgetown Brewing, who will be joined by a merry crew of Georgetown Brewing revelers. I’m not sure if they’ll actually perform, but they are definitely bringing some great beer with them. Not just Bodhizafa IPA, but other fun stuff like Barrel Elderfrost, Gusto Crema (which also won a gold medal at the GABF last year), Johnny Utah, Shanebeer Red, and of course, Manny’s Pale Ale.
The Bodhizafa inauguration party gets started at 7:00 with some some sort of official declaration around 8:00. Beer, hoopla, shenanigans and smiles will be available throughout the evening.
