Reuben’s Brews releases the 2020 edition of Hop Idol, at the taproom and online starting today

Each year Reuben’s Brews invites local homebrewers to submit their most innovative and tasty creations for consideration in its Hop Idol contest. The beers are evaluated and judged by a panel of experts assembled by the brewery. The winning brewer is then invited to collaborate with the brew crew at Reuben’s to recreate the beer on the big, pro system. It is quite an honor for a homebrewer. For the first time in the contest’s history, someone has won for the second time. Congrats to Alex Kuyper.

“Earlier this year a panel of esteemed BJCP judges, members of the Reuben’s Brews team, and some of our friends from the industry gathered at the brewery to taste through over 100 homebrew entries to the 4th annual Hop Idol Homebrew Contest,” said an announcement from Reuben’s Brews. “We tried a lot of innovative and unique beers, but the final judging table ultimately selected the winner: a New England IPA submitted by Alex Kuyper! Alex is the first-ever two-time winner of Hop Idol, having also taken the top prize in 2018.”

“This year’s Hop Idol release is brewed in collaboration with Alex, and is based on his winning recipe for Craig, and features lots of Riwaka, Simcoe, and Citra hops. This beer is a tropically indulgent hop feast, and we can’t wait for you to try it.”

The beer will be available today at noon (Tuesday, August 25, 2020). You can get it at the Reuben’s Taproom and To-Go Store or online at ReubensBrews.com/Shop. The 2020 version of Hop Idol sees wider distribution around the Pacific Northwest later this week.
