(Tumwater, Wash.) February 24, 2020 — Triceratops Brewing, a small, family-owned beer company in Washington’s south sound region, will celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with a pair of new canned offerings: Irish Lager and Collin James Irish Red Ale. This is the debut release of Irish Lager, while Collin James has been part of the brewery’s draft lineup for several years. Both styles pair well with familiar Irish dishes like shepherd’s pie, oysters, or fish and chips. And for co-owner and head brewer Rob Horn, the decision to can these two beers was an easy one.

“I’ve always liked malty Irish beer,” he says. “My family has Irish heritage and back home in New Jersey, my local was a tavern near the Pennsylvania state line called the Warrenside. When we were still dating, my wife Kelly and I would go there and drink Harp and Guinness. These beers represent our roots.”

Irish Lager (4.9% ABV) is a premium lager brewed with Pilsner malt from Ireland and East Kent Golding hops. Floral, earthy and slightly grassy on the nose, the aroma brings to mind a spring meadow, while the golden color suggests a light, crisp taste with notes of honey. Above all, the appeal of this easy-drinking beer lies in its simplicity and the quality of its ingredients.

Low in alcohol and bitterness, Collin James Irish Red Ale (5.0% ABV) is a well-balanced people pleaser. Lightly hopped with the mild, earthy, and somewhat woody Fuggle variety, this beer entices the nose with a rich, toffee-like aroma. Meanwhile, notes of plum and raisin play with a slightly bready and nutty flavor provided by Irish ale malt and a touch of roasted barley.
