Two Beers Brewing announces Fresh Hop IPA release date – August 19

It is with joy and sadness that I share with you the news that Two Beers Brewing will release the first batch of 2016 Fresh Hop IPA on August 19th. Joy because I love fresh hop beer. Sadness because it means that summer’s end is now in sight. This year, Two Beers will package its Fresh Hop IPA in cans!

For the last several years, Two Beers Brewing has been the first Washington brewery to release its fresh hop beers. Something to do with a special relationship they have with a hop farmer who has a certain part of his crop that comes ready very early. The earliest I remember was in 2014, when the brewery released its Fresh Hop IPA on August 9th.

Not sure what fresh hop beer is all about? Or is it wet hop beer? Check out this primer we did a few years back.

Seattle-based brewery to release its award-winning Fresh Hop IPA as first of the season; now available in 12-ounce cans and draft, featuring fresh Centennial Hops from Yakima, Wash.

SEATTLE (August 2, 2016) – Two Beers Brewing is excited to announce the release of its most anticipated beer of the year – Fresh Hop IPA – scheduled for Friday, August 19 at The Woods tasting room in SoDo. First brewed in 2009, Fresh Hop enters its eighth season on the brewery’s fall lineup – with a twist for 2016! Previously available in 22-ounce bottles, Fresh Hop IPA will now be available in 12-ounce cans and on draft. Winning first place at the 2015 Fresh Hop Festival in Yakima last year, this celebrated hyper seasonal will only be around through the end of September.

“We look forward to this beer just as much as our Fresh Hop fans do,” said Joel VandenBrink, founder of Two Beers Brewing Co. “It’s an annual tradition for our team, as well as the dozens of people who come out to help us handpick the hops off the vines on our dock. We love getting to involve the public in making this fantastic beer and can’t wait to enjoy it for the first time in cans!”

A hyper seasonal, Two Beers Brewing’s Fresh Hop IPA is known for its intense hop flavor and unique brewing process, which involves a same-day round trip drive to Yakima, four hours of picking fresh hops off the vines and a 24-hour brewing process. Ringing in at approximately 70 IBUs and 6.2% ABV, Two Beers Brewing’s annual Fresh Hop IPA features a juicy citrus aroma – offering hints of grapefruit and passion fruit – that can be attributed to the fresh Yakima Valley-grown Centennial hops used to create it. Dark straw in color with light caramel malt tones, Fresh Hop resembles an aggressively dry-hopped IPA, but packing the punch and flavor only fresh hops can deliver. In addition to Centennial hops, this beer features locally grown Simcoe, Amarillo, Cascade and experimental hops, helping this popular beer achieve its bright and delightfully bitter flavor. Available in 12-ounce cans and on draft throughout Washington, Oregon, Alaska and Idaho, this beer will only be available for a limited time.

Celebrate the release of this exciting beer on Friday, August 19 at The Woods tasting room in SoDo (4660 Ohio Ave S) from 3-10pm. Pints and tasters will be available, with six-packs of Fresh Hop available for purchase from The Woods retail space. Shared with Seattle Cider Company, The Woods tasting room features pool, shuffleboard and an outdoor patio, as well as food from Bread & Circuses available for purchase.
